CatholicCare's Men’s Carer Support group was established to provide male Carers with an opportunity to share caring and life experience from a male perspective by creating a socially supportive and comfortable environment for emotional expression that for many men might be the greatest challenge of all. The support group focuses on different approaches that assist male carers in “breaking free” from isolation that is generally one of the major issues of a caring role. It adds a greater dimension to their lives by supporting the development of strong friendships and offering a pathway to broaden their interests. Carers are provided with the opportunity to get involved in interesting activities and events of their choice that are more of a “male” nature. They are encouraged to do things they enjoy and participate in new and already existing community activities. A well rounded outlook, creativity, a good sense of humour and adventure are all great contributors to overall health and well-being and are very much present and nurtured amongst the group participants.
